Surrounded by many of Switzerland's most famous excursion mountains, Lake Lucerne is one of the most diverse lakes in the country. Its shape and breathtaking surroundings are somewhat reminiscent of a fjord landscape.

The lake owes its name to the four "forest sites" bordering it, the three original cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden and the canton of Lucerne, which surround the lake area.

One of the highlights of the region is undoubtedly a cruise on one of the four historic paddle steamers or one of the 15 elegant saloon motor ships.

Many of the most important and beautiful destinations and mountain railways in Central Switzerland can be reached comfortably and with a view by boat. These include the Rigi, the Pilatus, the Bürgenstock or the Klewenalp.

The ships are operated by Switzerland's largest shipping company, the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees (SGV). The company's fleet of ships could not be more diverse. From nostalgic steamers with art nouveau saloons to ultra-modern yachts with convertible roofs.

Days of travel

For a one-week stay you have 5 days (consecutive) free travel, for a two-week stay you enjoy 13 days (consecutive) free travel. The free travel does not apply on the day of arrival and departure.
